ESG and Climate Initiatives at WRS
For Planet: Sustainability and the Environment
At WRS, we understand the impact our business operations have on the environment and the responsibility we must conduct business in as sustainable manner as possible. Through the WRS climate action initiative, we focus on reducing our carbon footprint, minimising waste, and reducing our use of natural resources.
Our Carbon Footprint
At WRS, we believe in measuring what matters – our environmental output. Since 2022, we have been diligently tracking our carbon footprint in line with the internationally recognised Greenhouse Gas Protocol. By measuring our emissions across various areas of our operations (scope 1, scope 2 and selected scope 3), we gain valuable insights that help us identify key areas for improvement and take necessary actions to reduce our environmental impact. Although as a medium-sized business we are not required by Government legislation to do so, we now measure and report on our carbon footprint annually.
Our Carbon Neutrality Commitment
WRS achieved carbon neutrality for the first time in 2023 and is committed to ongoing carbon neutrality. We measure our carbon footprint on an annual basis, identify key areas to target, and implement actions to reduce our emissions. As part of our commitment to carbon neutrality we purchase sufficient high-quality, third-party verified carbon credits from carbon reduction projects focused on renewable energy development, energy efficiency and sustainable cookware to support forest protection and to balance our greenhouse gas emissions each year. We carefully select projects which also meet the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals and provide benefits to the local communities involved in the projects. We see carbon neutrality as an important first step on our road to net-zero.
Reducing our Usage of Paper
At WRS, we recognise the importance of minimising paper usage as part of our environmental stewardship, especially in an industry that has historically been heavily reliant on paper. We have implemented various initiatives throughout our operations to reduce paper consumption and promote sustainable practices. By leveraging technology and digital solutions, we have significantly reduced our reliance on paper-based processes.
Through our concerted efforts, we have seen a remarkable decline in paper consumption, leading to substantial savings in natural resources and energy. We are proud of the progress we have made and remain committed to continuously improving our processes.
