200 Mile Challenge: Mark Burslem

Posted by: Emma Upton

This month members of the WRS Running club are collectively running 200 miles to raise money for Forever Manchester. Throughout July we will be sitting down with members of the running club to get an insight into why they’ve taken up the challenge, what motivates them and to find out a little more about them.

Name: Mark Burslem

Role: Marketing

Tell us a bit about yourself: I have been working at WRS in the marketing department for over a year now and its flown bye! I’ve never worked anywhere that has such a friendly atmosphere, no two days are ever the same and I love the variety of my role. I’ve been working in marketing for nearly nine years now working in a variety of sectors, I think the recruitment sector has been the most enjoyable so far.

Why do you run? I love running for a lot of reasons, which is why I jumped at the chance to take part in the 200-mile challenge. I love challenging myself and regularly take part in long distance races throughout the UK with friends and family. The last race I did was the Brighton Half Marathon in February, just before lockdown. I’d never ran that far before, so I was really proud that I was able to not only complete the run without stopping but I was able to get a really good time (1:40). The great thing about running is, it’s all about what you put in – I always want to improve and get a faster time, it’s a great feeling when you smash your target and get a PB! When things settle down I’d love to take part in some long-distance events, the London Marathon has always been a goal of mine so I’m hopeful that someday soon I’ll be able to take part.
