200 Mile Challenge - Meet the Team

Posted by: Emma Upton

This month members of the WRS Running club are collectively running 200 miles to raise money for Forever Manchester. Throughout July we will be sitting down with members of the running club to get an insight into why they’ve taken up the challenge, what motivates them and to find out a little more about them.

To kick off the first blog we sat down with Emma Upton, HR Business Partner at WRS.

Name: Emma Upton

Role: HR Business Partner

Tell us a bit about yourself: I have worked at WRS for nearly 5 years, and what a 5 years it has been, both personally and professionally. I joined WRS as the Internal Recruitment Consultant and progressed through Learning and Development into my current HR Business Partner role. I am on the Senior Management Team reporting directly into the CEO. What a journey! WRS has supported me every step of the way, even through my CIPD Level 3 qualification while I was on maternity leave. As soon as I started at WRS, I was struck by the fantastic team spirit that the company has. It has been my mission to preserve this as the business grows. I feel that Forever Manchester has a similar ethos in the work it does in the community and I’m really proud to be raising money for this fantastic cause.

Why do you run? I have two small children – a little girl called Leah who is 18 months old and a little boy called Jack who has just turned 3. I love them dearly but caring for them is a full-time job at the moment, on top of my work at WRS and renovating our home which we bought two years ago. Running gives me some head space to think and process everything that is going on in my busy life. I love putting on some music or a podcast, pulling on my trainers and escaping for 30 minutes. I find running is a fantastic tonic for anxiety and stress. I really notice the difference on the days I don’t exercise. I enjoyed running before I became a mother, but since having two children my pace has slowed down a bit! I set myself personal goals, like running 5k in under 30 minutes, which keeps me motivated and positive about the progress I’m making.
