Describe your career path at WRS?

When I first started my career in the maritime team at WRS as a recruitment consultant I began by shadowing my colleagues and learning about the industry and our clients to gain a better understanding of the job. I wasn’t thrown in at the deep end and was able to learn at a steady pace which was backed up by ongoing training and development. WRS they really care about your career and want you to progress. Shortly after starting I sat down with my line-manager to work on a career development plan, which has been amazing as I’m able to see what I need to do to progress my career and the incredible opportunities that are open to me at WRS. 

What does a typical day in the maritime team look like? 

I contact my client and candidate base to help build relationships, I do this by discussing their challenges, WRS, the solutions we provide and how we can help them. I support and run a full recruitment process for our clients and manage the process from start to finish providing top profiles suited to the role and cultural requirements of both our clients and candidates.

What has been your most impactful accomplishment so far?

Being able to adapt to change in a fast-moving environment, widening my knowledge and constantly learning new things.

What skills do you need to be successful in your role?

Coming from a sales background I feel the skills I’ve gained have helped me massively within my role. The key is being able to listen, gathering information and being precise to find the right candidates for my clients. Time-management is one of the most important skills to have, it’s helped me to keep on top of my tasks and enables me to prioritise my workload in order to achieve my targets.

What do you find inspiring/challenging/rewarding about working in recruitment?

The most rewarding part of the job is fulfilling expectations and supporting both candidates and clients. Meeting new people, learning about their career paths and aspirations is very inspiring. I love speaking to people who are highly driven and willing to succeed. Working in a pressured environment with time-pressure and managing a number of tasks at one time can be challenging, but also rewarding when the hard work pays off. 

How has the culture at WRS enabled you to succeed?

Being around a team of specialists and driven individuals has helped me to succeed at WRS. It’s a very supportive environment, where everyone shares best practice and knowledge, which has helped me to grow my skill set and helped me grow as an individual.  

Outside of work, what are you passionate about?

Outside of work I’m passionate about sport and love spending time with my friends and family.
