Position: Chief Estimator – Mechanical Contractor
Location: Cocoa, FL

A well-established mechanical contractor based in Central Florida is conducting a confidential search for an experienced Chief Estimator to lead its estimating department. This company has a strong reputation in the commercial HVAC and plumbing markets and is looking for a hands-on leader who can take ownership of the estimating process and help drive continued growth.
Position Overview:
The Chief Estimator will be responsible for overseeing all estimating activities, including bid strategy, takeoffs, subcontractor/vendor coordination, and proposal development. This role requires a deep understanding of mechanical systems and the ability to manage multiple estimates for commercial HVAC and plumbing projects across various market sectors.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and manage the estimating process from initial bid review through final submission
- Review drawings and specifications to develop complete, accurate mechanical estimates
- Coordinate with subcontractors, suppliers, and internal project teams
- Prepare detailed scope sheets, budgets, and proposals for HVAC and plumbing work
- Track historical cost data and market trends to maintain competitive pricing
- Participate in preconstruction meetings and support handoff to project management
- Mentor junior estimators and contribute to overall departmental development
Qualifications:
- Minimum 8–10 years of mechanical estimating experience, including HVAC and plumbing
- Prior experience with commercial construction projects, including design-build and plan/spec
- Strong knowledge of mechanical systems, building codes, and construction processes
- Proficiency with estimating software and tools (e.g., Trimble Autobid, Quickpen, Bluebeam)
- Excellent communication, organization, and leadership skills
- Ability to work independently and manage competing deadlines in a fast-paced environment
