Senior Geotechnical Engineer

WRS are working with a high profile and rapidly growing copper company focused on large scale, low cost open pit mining in Kazakhstan. With the increasing demand for copper, they are increasing their production as they ramp up 2 Major Growth Projects in Kazakhstan.
Due to their continued growth, they require a Senior Geotechnical Engineer to work on one of their Open pit Copper Mines in Kazakhstan.
Duties include, but are not limited to:
·Provide consultation on open pit mining projects to mine engineering and operation team.
·Prepare technical proposals and reports which may include; design, analyses, geotechnical subsurface investigation, earthworks design, slope stability analysis.
·Ensure that the mine designs are geotechnicaly sound, workable and safe, and that, through regular reviews, the GCMP is implemented.
·Design, implement and oversee geotechnical studies for open pit projects, including pit inspections, monitoring reviews, drilling programs, rock slope mapping and slope design studies.
·Develop ground control management plan (GCMP).
·Perform monitoring of pit slopes and mapping.
·Examine access to pit wall.
·Review the feasibility study, design better slope angles and catch berms to minimise water erosion.
·Examine erosion effects and rock mass conditions.
·Trade off studies, for example shallower slope angles with narrower berms or steeper slope angles with wider berms.
·Monitor and coordinate dewatering issues.
·Design a comprehensive network of survey prisms around the pit walls.
·Lead project teams, working with other professionals, to deliver high quality reports on time and within budget.
·Manage quality control regarding all aspects of geotechnical work, including critical review of results.
·Conduct regular inspections of work areas and ensure timely documentation of all findings.

Qualifications & Experience
·Higher education with relevant specialization in geotechnical engineering or engineering geology.
·At least 5 years of experience in similar roles in a mining or mineral processing environment.
·Significant experience in mine rock engineering and pit slope design.
·Proven capabilities in planning and supervising geotechnical subsurface explorations and in writing geotechnical reports and technical communications.
·Exposure to the establishment of mine planning, survey and geological management systems.
·Exposure to fleet management systems such as Leica Jigsaw or equivalent.
·Ability to assess risk in relation to occupational hazards and apply appropriate precautions and safeguards, demonstrating a high level of safety.
·High degree of exposure to specialized geological software (Datamine/Surpac etc).
·Knowledge of RoK legislative and other normative acts, relating to production activities.
·Knowledge of the basics of RoK Labor Code, HSE rules and regulations, fire safety requirements.
·Driver's license (B category).
The Senior Geotechnical Engineer will be working in Kazakhstan on a 6/3 rotation. Our client offers a competitive salary package, they will pay local taxes, Discretionary bonus, Family Medical Insurance, Life Insurance and a generous travel allowance.
