Senior Quantity Surveyor for £11m Student Accommodation scheme in Coventry

WRS are working with the Commercial Director of this Tier One Building Contractor who is looking to appoint a Senior Quantity Surveyor on a permanent basis to lead activities on a new build scheme in Coventry.

The Client and Projects
This is a well-established Main Construction Group with a number of awards behind them. Their turnover for the region has grown to £60m and with many additional projects in the pipeline and recent promotions of a Senior QS to Managing QS this is an excellent time to join.

Their building division covers the full spectrum of Construction projects (prodominantely new build) typically from £8 - £30m in value across Commercial, Education, Health and RPS schemes. In addition they manage a number of large Framework agreements nationally.

Overview of the Role
Based in the West Midlands region, on site in Coventry, the Senior QS will be responsible for ensuring commercial & contractual control and co-ordination of the efforts of all parties involved in the execution of the £11m New Build Student Accommodation project which will run until October 2017. After which the role will move onto other projects in the region, either managing a large scheme or several smaller schemes. You will be have direct responsibility for an Assistant QS who will be assisting to aid in the delivery on the project.

Key Responsibilities
- Ensure all duties are carried out in accordance with standard company HSE procedures and work instructions
- Accountable for the activities of any directly reporting quantity surveying staff, including mentoring junior members of the team, and provide advice and guidance to other members of the team and to Project Directors/Managers, as required
- In conjunction with the relevant Project Management team member, be accountable for the profitability of the project(s), and develop an appropriate commercial strategy for the project(s) to ensure delivery of required margins
- With other members of the team, produce and provide accurate forecasts of project cost to completion and final value
- Ensure contract variations are identified, valued and turned into agreed variation orders with the customer in a timely manner
- Assist in ensuring effective records are maintained to support claims and that applications for payment for variations are issued in a timely manner

Suitable Applicants
- Substantial previous experience in Quantity Surveying within a Construction environment
- Sound working knowledge of construction and contract law and various forms of Conditions of Contract
- Significant knowledge of construction techniques on particular projects
- Ability to apply the knowledge and principles of commercial management to construction projects
- Ability to implement procedures to quantify and cost construction works, including the use of appropriate standard methods of measurement
- Proficiency in administration, writing, numeracy, IT and MS Office
- Effective negotiation skills with both internal and external

Salary and Package
Due to the seniority of the role the client is paying from £55k - £60k + car or allowance, pension, healthcare and performance bonus.
