Chevron and Israel $610 M Deal to Expand Subsea Gas Pipeline

September 2025, Chevron and Israel Natural Gas Lines (INGL) signed a landmark $610 million agreement to build the Nitzana pipeline. This new subsea pipeline will double the export capacity of natural gas from Israel’s Leviathan field to Egypt, marking a significant milestone in regional energy collaboration.

The 65-kilometre pipeline, stretching from Ramat Hovav to the Nitzana border, is expected to be operational by 2028, according to the Times of Israel (TOI). Construction is anticipated to begin in the fourth quarter of 2025, with completion projected in approximately three years, subject to regulatory approvals and final agreements, reports Themedialine.

Initially, it will transport 600 million cubic feet of gas per day, with plans to expand capacity to 2.2 billion cubic feet per day in the future. This infrastructure upgrade forms an essential part of a broader 15-year, $35 billion natural gas supply deal between Leviathan partners and Egypt’s Blue Ocean Energy, the largest energy export agreement in Israel’s history.

The expanded pipeline system aims to address Egypt’s growing energy demands amid declining production from its own gas fields. By transporting significant volumes of natural gas through the Mediterranean Sea, the project will bolster Egypt’s domestic supply and enhance its LNG export capabilities, supplying around 130 billion cubic meters of gas over the contract term.

This deal exemplifies how strategic investments in pipeline infrastructure can resolve regional energy deficits and strengthen energy security for both nations.

Why This Matters for the Global Energy Workforce

Large-scale projects like the Chevron–Leviathan pipeline expansion go far beyond energy supply. They generate extensive demand for skilled professionals across various disciplines, fuelling workforce growth in the Eastern Mediterranean region, a rapidly emerging strategic energy corridor.

The project will create abundant opportunities for:

  • Subsea engineers and pipeline specialists focused on design, installation, and maintenance of subsea infrastructure
  • Offshore installation crews who handle equipment placement and construction in challenging marine environments
  • Project managers and planning engineers ensuring timelines, budgets, and compliance targets are met
  • Marine crew and vessel support teams providing essential operational logistics and transport
  • Production technicians and HSE professionals managing ongoing facilities operation and safety

With Israel, Egypt, Cyprus and international operators expanding energy developments, the demand for experienced technical talent continues to grow.
