Job Summary
The Wellsite Geologist is the Geosciences representative at the rig site (for all types of wells) and is responsible for accurate geological data acquisition, interpretation, and timely reporting. The role includes supervising all geological operations and ensuring data quality, compliance, and effective communication between all stakeholders at the rig site.

Key Accountabilities

Ensure effective communication between all parties involved in the execution of geological operations at the wellsite.
Ensure the drilling representative is informed of all geological information critical for optimized and safe execution of the drilling program.
Analyze and interpret well data for optimum execution of geological well programs.
Ensure company procedures and contractual terms are complied with onsite.
Ensure reliability, accuracy, completeness, and confidentiality of acquired data.
Ensure accurate reporting of all geological and operational activities.
Evaluate and report service companies’ personnel capabilities and equipment compatibility as per contract through audits at job start.
Train and mentor wellsite geologists and service company staff.

Key Responsibilities
Operations

Actively monitor and interpret available data (drilling rock cuttings, drilling gases, hydrocarbon shows, DP, Mud Logging, MWD/LWD, Wireline) to evaluate geological formations, facies, and subsurface structures.
Interpret and correlate offset well data with operations geologists to optimize formation top prognosis and casing points.
Monitor data (Drilling, ML, LWD, WL) to identify drilling hazards (losses, gains, overpressure, H?S, swelling clays, cavings) and report immediately to the Drilling Supervisor on site and to operations geologists in town.
Ensure proper communication between Mud Logging, MWD/LWD, Directional Drillers, Mud Engineers, drilling crews, and Drilling Supervisor, particularly regarding drilling hazards.
Communicate well progress and deliver required reports in line with operational standards and timelines.
Prepare and maintain accurate geological documentation, including Daily Geological Reports.
Execute data acquisition programs and coordinate contracted service crews (mud logging, MWD/LWD, wireline) in conjunction with operations geologists.
Supervise geological operations personnel and verify contractor equipment compliance with approved programs and contracts.
Ensure regular testing and calibration of Mud Logging sensors and equipment.
Supervise geological operations and data acquisitions (Mud Logging, MWD/LWD, Wireline Logging, Coring), ensuring quality control and data validation.
Monitor site progress and advise operations geologists on coring, logging, casing points, continuation, or suspension of drilling.
Supervise conditioning, labeling, packing, and transportation of cuttings, gas samples, cores, core plugs, and fluid samples.
Prepare Geological End?of?Well Reports and contribute to final well composite logs.
Supervise and execute local Wellsite Geologist training programs.

Health, Safety & Environment (HSE)

Comply with all applicable HSE policies, rules, and procedures.
Contribute to asset integrity initiatives by reporting anomalies, defects, unsafe practices, equipment deficiencies, or competency gaps that could result in major HSE incidents or production loss.
Participate in HSE activities and reporting systems (e.g., stop cards, audits, HSE action plans).
Promote high HSE standards during all wellsite geological and formation evaluation activities.

Required Qualifications & Experience

B.Sc. in Geoscience.
Minimum 5 years’ experience as a Wellsite Geologist, including at least 3 years in wellsite geology operations, Mud Logging, or MWD/LWD.
Experience in at least 5 wells within the Kurdistan Region of Iraq.
Experience drilling and evaluating Tertiary, Cretaceous, Jurassic, and Triassic sequences, with emphasis on fractured carbonate reservoirs.
Seniority level dependent on experience and performance during the probationary period.
