Position Summary:
The Lead Mechanical & Rotating Engineer is responsible for the overall co-ordination of all Mechanical engineering deliverables and Rotating Equipment Packages in accordance with the approved development plans and HSSE standards of facilities projects. Specifically, the delivery of a fast-track 100 MMscfd sour gas processing plant with SRU or acid gas injection, the installation of a Sour gas trunk line and sweet gas delivery line and the connection to the Power Plant.

The Lead Mechanical and Rotating Engineer shall be responsible for the review & approval of all discipline related Engineering deliverables & construction drawings.

Main Duties & Responsibilities:
Performance Expectations:

  • Single point of accountability for the execution of all Mechanical engineering and Rotating Equipment systems during concept, pre-FEED and FEED through to EPC, commissioning and operational support.
  • Ability to take responsibility and manage tasks through to completion.
  • Adopt pragmatic, fit for purpose approach striving for simplicity without compromising on safety requirement or production objectives.
  • Initiate, develop and manage intelligent engineering systems and procedures.
  • Define and safely deliver cost effective project (Mechanical engineering deliverables and Rotating Equipment Packages) solutions within challenging timescales
  • Direct Engineering and/or Contractors activities with respect to Mechanical engineering and Rotating Equipment Packages.
  • Participate in Model (30%/60%/90%), HAZID, HAZOP, SIL, QRA and constructability reviews
  • Ensure integration of Rotating Equipment Packages into overall Gas Plant design.
  • Prepare, review and approve internal (Mechanical engineering and Rotating Equipment) technical procedures and scope changes
  • Coordination with other project discipline engineering team members and other internal stakeholders
  • Monitor  engineering progress and ensure necessary information flow between disciplines to meet project milestones.  Contribute and provide Mechanical engineering deliverables and Rotating Equipment packages project status reports.
  • Provide on-site support during construction and commissioning activities.

Competency (Knowledge & Skills) Required:

  • Technical management of all Mechanical engineering deliverables and Rotating Equipment packages, including concept definition and development, detailed engineering, implementation (Construction and Commissioning) and close-out.
  • Have a wide range of technical skills and experience and knowledge of Mechanical engineering and Rotating Equipment (including Acid Gas Injection and Sweet Gas Export Compressors) modular system which can be expanded for future Gas Plant trains.
  • Hands on experience with construction and commissioning.
  • Experience in developing technically acceptable, constructible and operable cost-effective solutions to complex problems.
  • Knowledge and understanding of modularized process plant design and installation
  • Coordinate with internal engineering personnel to deliver allocated project scope.
  • Work with internal and external engineering, operations and construction teams to develop commissioning and handover plans.
  • Ability to coordinate and provide interface between the Company’s Engineering, Operations and Construction teams.

Minimum Qualifications:
Education and Qualifications Expected / Required:

  • Degree from a recognised University in Mechanical Engineering discipline
  • Chartered Engineer or member of an internationally recognized Professional Engineering Association preferred.

Experience Expected / Required:

  • A minimum of 10 years of experience as a Lead Mechanical and Rotating Engineer with extensive onshore oil & gas project experience with an E&P Operator or Tier-1 Engineering/EPC Company including projects in with sour gas environments.
  • Must have contributed to a full-cycle execution of a gas processing plant (preferably high ‘10%’ sulphur) in EPC or EPCM environment, from FEED through to commissioning and handover. Experience in managing the associated Mechanical Engineering an Rotating Equipment challenges.
  • Experience in contributing to complex projects with technical teams involving over 50 company and contractor personnel.
  • Previous project experience in the Middle East is essential.

Other Relevant Competency Requirements:

  • Technical expert in Mechanical Engineering with respect to Sour Gas service Metallurgy and Compressors.
  • Open, clear, communication style both verbal and written.  Ability to grasp complex issues and convey their resolution to project stakeholders
  • Hand-on down-to-earth practical approach, contributes personally to solve problems and gets things done with a sense of urgency.
  • Broad technical knowledge of oil and gas engineering, a strong preference to upstream gas processing.
  • Clear bias for action, quickly identifying opportunities/obstacles and assembling the resources required to act on them.
  • Proven ability to work on a number of issues simultaneously.
  • Ensure vendor documentation is properly managed and comments returned in a timely manner
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to travel to site is mandatory. This requires an acceptable level of mobility and fitness to carry essential safety equipment (escape sets).
