A leading Southern California design-build mechanical contractor is seeking an experienced Mechanical Project Manager to join its growing team in Gardena, CA. This is a confidential search for a well-established contractor known for delivering complex commercial HVAC and plumbing systems across healthcare, education, aerospace, and large commercial facilities.

This is an excellent opportunity for a proven Mechanical PM who thrives in design-build environments, values strong project controls, and wants to work on technically challenging projects with a collaborative team.

Position Overview The Mechanical Project Manager will oversee commercial HVAC and plumbing projects from preconstruction through closeout. The role requires strong financial oversight, scheduling discipline, subcontractor coordination, and client-facing communication skills.

Projects typically range from mid-sized commercial work to large, complex mechanical scopes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage commercial HVAC, plumbing, and piping projects from buyout through closeout
  • Oversee budgeting, forecasting, cost control, and financial reporting
  • Coordinate field teams, subcontractors, engineers, and owners
  • Lead scheduling and ensure project milestones are met
  • Support design-build and design-assist delivery methods
  • Manage change orders, RFIs, submittals, procurement, and closeout documentation
  • Maintain strong client relationships and drive repeat business

Qualifications

  • 5–15+ years of mechanical construction experience
  • Strong background in commercial HVAC systems (chillers, boilers, air handlers, VRF, VAV, hydronic piping)
  • Experience managing projects in healthcare, education, aerospace, or large commercial facilities preferred
  • Proven ability to manage project financials and maintain profitability
  • Experience with estimating and preconstruction support is a plus
  • Proficient in construction management software and Microsoft Project/Excel
  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or related field preferred (not required with strong experience)
