About the Role We are seeking an experienced DW OSE Coach – Rigless Operations to join a major greenfield development project in a remote and environmentally sensitive area of Uganda. This is a unique opportunity to contribute to one of the most significant onshore drilling programs in the region, with complex logistical, operational, and environmental challenges.
The DW OSE Coach will play a key role in promoting a strong safety culture at the rig site, coaching rig and service contractor personnel, and driving HSE performance improvements across all operations. The role reports to the DW OSL.
Key Responsibilities
- Promote and maintain a robust safety culture at the rig site through coaching, knowledge sharing, and visible leadership.
- Lead front-end coaching of crews on hazard observation, risk identification, preventive barrier understanding, and proper reporting using Safety Observation Cards (SOC) and job packages.
- Support crews in identifying risks and hazards, driving constructive solutions, and ensuring safety concerns are addressed by onboard management.
- Oversee the quality of Rig Site Safety Inductions and verify training compliance for rig contractor and service company personnel.
- Support the development and implementation of HSE improvement plans in collaboration with rig contractors.
- Conduct regular safety audits of contractor and service company HSE systems.
- Share best practices between different rig sites to ensure consistent safety standards.
- Participate in incident investigations and Cause Tree Analyses (CTA), ensuring timely implementation and closure of corrective actions.
- Monitor and report on HSE performance indicators, audits, non-conformities, and follow-up actions.
Profile & Qualifications
- Minimum 3-year university degree or equivalent professional experience. HSE background preferred; drilling and wells operations experience will be considered.
- Preferred certifications in Risk & Human Factors, Cause Tree Analysis, Environmental Protection in Operations, and Oil Spill Clearance.
- Minimum 3 years’ experience in a similar role within Drilling & Wells operations.
- Strong communication and leadership skills, with the ability to motivate multicultural teams at all organisational levels.
- Proven ability to work in remote locations under challenging conditions.
Project Environment
- Large-scale greenfield onshore development in a remote area near Lake Albert, Uganda.
- Operations involve heavy and waxy oils, multiple drilling pads including some in a national park, and a complex surface network with temperature preservation systems.
- A multicultural working environment, with contractors from various regions and strict compliance with Ugandan regulations and international standards.
