Geotechnical Lead

Are you a Geotechnical Lead Consultant with experience looking to advance your career?

Our client is a global energy consulting firm with a long track record of delivering environmental and consenting support to offshore renewables projects. Their remit covers fixed and floating offshore wind, wave, tidal and hydrogen/energy storage projects. They are looking for an experienced Geotechnical Lead consultant who can provide technical leadership to our Project Development team within the Renewables division. The role can be based in, Glasgow, London or Aberdeen offices. 

Responsibilities:

The Consultant would be expected to take a lead role in project delivery right across their portfolio of projects, providing direction to the project team on the delivery methodology, ensure client requirements are met and that deliverables are to a high quality. In addition, the consultant would be responsible for defining best practices, knowledge sharing activities, technical training, innovation ideas and internal tool development within the P&TD team.
They have a wide range of projects varying in size and topic, providing the opportunity for a highly varied workload. All of the team are also actively involved in business development activities associated with their technical specialisms and we are targeting continued growth of the team in terms of our technical capabilities.

Their team is strongly connected into the other renewables teams and divisions enabling them to offer comprehensive solutions to their clients’ problems, drawing on specialists from structures and subsea, field development, technical safety and risk, energy yield, cables and interconnectors, market insights and advisory among others.
Some typical work scopes that you would provide technical oversight on are:
  • Constraints mapping and site selection across a range of geographies and utilising GIS mapping tools
  • Preparation of project budgets, LCoE/cost modelling and cost comparisons
  • Competition analysis and route to market studies
  • Feasibility studies including technology suitability assessment, project concept definition, installation and O&M planning, risk assessment
  • Technology review and market entry strategy
  • Seabed leasing, grid connection, consenting and CfD/auction application advice
  • Pre-FEED/FEED level design scopes

Requirements: 
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in a consultancy role ideally within offshore wind
  • Experience with offshore wind, wave, tidal or hydrogen technologies and/or offshore renewables project development
  • Geotechnical background
  • Relevant Engineering or Science degree, 2:1 and above
  • Relevant PhD or Masters qualifications would be a bonus
  • Chartered, or working towards Chartership with IMechE, ICE or another suitable organisation
  • Competent user of MS Office tool suite. Python, Matlab or other coding experience would be desirable
  • A sound knowledge base and passion for the renewables industry
  • Strong consultancy skills, with experience in business development, project management, and client engagement alongside a track record of high quality technical project delivery
  • Excellent decision maker with advanced strategic thinking skills
  • Experience of participating in and/or coordinating multidisciplinary work scopes and teams
  • Penchant for big picture thinking, problem solving and innovation
  • Right to work in the UK, fluent English speaker
