My client are seeking a highly qualified Grid Specialist to join their team. They a global player in the renewable energy sector, dedicated to the development, construction, and operation of renewable energy projects on a global scale. Their portfolio encompasses various forms of renewable energy, including wind, solar, and hydroelectric power, all aimed at fostering a sustainable future for communities and businesses.

In this role, you will have overarching responsibility for grid connection activities, encompassing all aspects of the grid connection process, from capacity assessments and MV & HV connection design to engagement with relevant authorities and overseeing the implementation of grid connection works.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Identify and assess potential Points of Connection to the regional Distribution or Transmission system, considering available capacity for solar, wind, hydro, or storage projects.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with Grid Operators and Governmental Agencies related to grid connections.
  • Manage the interconnection process with Grid Operators and relevant authorities.
  • Provide technical assistance and guidance to the development team throughout project lifecycles.
  • Utilise local legislation and regulations expertise to create guidelines and tools for project activities planning and execution.
  • Analyse the local Grid Code, National Grid Statements, and other relevant information impacting project location strategy.
  • Evaluate Grid Connection Offers and technical data affecting project Grid Connection Design.
  • Coordinate grid connection applications and feasibility reviews with the Development team.
  • Familiarity with calculating relevant values related to single-line diagrams of an Electrical Network.
  • Evaluate Grid Impact studies in various states of electrical parameters.
  • Develop dynamic models for simulations to analyse power flow, stability, and frequency response.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering.
  • Professional Engineer registration with relevant authority.
  • 7+ years of experience in Electrical Engineering, with 5+ years in project environments involving substations and/or grid-connected renewable energy facilities.
  • Proficiency in simulation software such as Digsilent, PSSE, PSCAD, or equivalent.
  • In-depth understanding of local and regional Grid Codes, regulations, and standards related to renewable energy projects.
  • Experience in negotiating grid connection agreements.
  • Familiarity with large Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) is advantageous.
  • Proficiency in English; knowledge of local languages, French, or Portuguese is a plus.
