Mechanical Design Engineer - Evansville, IN
Job description
DESCRIPTION:
The Mechanical Engineer will support design and fabrication of equipment to support all construction projects. Design work will include planning, equipment design and manufacture, permanent facility design, and general problem-solving for all aspects and components of mine hoisting systems as well as the conveyances for both personnel and materials. The Mechanical Engineering team works as part of an in-house multi-disciplinary technical unit that supplies design, analysis and consulting services for both internal and external customers. In this role, the Mechanical Engineer will interact with peers, consultants, outside vendors and clients, as appropriate.

As a Mechanical Engineer, reporting to Engineering Manager, you will have the opportunity to:
- Design mechanical systems, structures and components
- Assist with modifications to existing equipment, systems, structures and components
- Provide technical support to the Civil, Mining and Lake Shore Divisions
- Assist with mechanical plans and technical quotes for systems, structures and components
- Ensure compliance with safety standards related to mechanical systems, structures and components
- Assist in responding to site-based requests for information, including analysis and recommendations
- Prepare and present project documents including calculations, drawings, specifications and reports
- Travel to site as needed
- Bachelor degree in mechanical engineering or closely related discipline from an accredited institution
- 5 or more years of work experience, preferably in a field related to machine design or maintenance
- Ability to become a licensed Professional Engineer (P.E.) within 2 years
- Experience with hydraulics, hoists and/or pneumatic systems is desirable
- Demonstrated logical problem-solving skills, including conceptual and analytical skills
- Knowledge of Autodesk Inventor software and Finite Element Analysis software
- Advanced computer skills in spreadsheets, word processing, and database software
- Good verbal, written and presentation skills
